In the past, 90% of the grassland in the Prairies has turned into cropland with vegetation starting to improve. The plants from the cropland are wheat grass, Alkali grass, wild barley and yellow prickly pear grass (if you don't know these type of plants, there will be pictures to the right). In the previous sections, it was explained that glaciation had taken over the Prairies leaving melting glaciers to form inland seas, well these seas made the caused the water system to grow crops in half of the land area. This leads to vegetation relying on climate and soil.
When there is a lot of rain that covers Manitoba, the water goes through roots so it can go into the lake, the lake starts condensation which later feeds the plants water by raining. The Prairies also grows colorful flowers that makes the scenery look beautiful, an example is the sunflower which is found mostly all over the land of the Prairies. So you now know the climate of the ecozone, but how about the animals? How do they live in this environment? In order to answer that question, go to the animal species section!
